Quiet my soul, O Lord,
quiet my soul so I can feel your presence
You created the universe,
created us in your image
You led your people out of slavery,
parted the Red Sea
You gave us the Ten Commandments,
so life would go well for us
You feed and clothe us,
so we don’t have to be anxious
You have revealed to us many secrets,
modern medicine, computers, air travel
We jet across your planet in a day,
antibiotics cure killer infections
But we’ve filled your world with noise,
cars and politics and experts
And the roaring noise from within,
The anxiety you told us to relinquish
You love the humble,
those who rely on you
You love those who trust and obey you,
for this leads to wisdom
But the noise fills our souls,
we’ve become seekers of status and wealth
Without humble trust and obedience,
How can we live in your presence?
You sent your one and only Son,
as a sacrifice for our sins
From the line of David’s throne,
you sent the eternal king
Who lived a sinless life,
yet he drank your cup of wrath
The cup that we deserve,
the cup that separated us from you
Jesus drank that cup for us,
handing us the Cup of Salvation
Who can deny the greatness of God?
your steadfast love is boundless
Help us respond with humility and obedience,
following you and not the world
Help us to hear you in everyday life,
to hear you whispering to our souls
Help us hear you in the songs of the birds,
the sunset, the wind through the pines
In my spiritual journey,
Lord, quiet my soul
In my marriage and relationships,
Lord, quiet my soul
In my daily toil,
Lord, quiet my soul
In this noisy world,
Lord, quiet my soul
Quiet my soul, O Lord,
quiet my soul so I can trust and obey
